Above are waddles which now replace most “rock check dams”.   Once charged with “Pam” they do an amazing job of cleaning up storm water run off, if they are installed right.  The advantage?   No equipment needed to install except a shovel and hammer,   no removal necessary since these waddles will trap grass seed and eventually become a mound of grass,  or can be moved and reused after short periods of time to allow re-grading,   much lower liability,  delivered in a pickup instead of a tandem dump truck. 

When you see someone putting stone in those ditches next to the road you are seeing someone way behind the times.   Technology in erosion control is changing rapidly.  

The contractor (Jimmy Daughtry Construction)  at the site above contacted me about waddles to help lower his sediment pond clean out costs.  I’ll have more pics after a few rains to show how these are working.
